North Lake Samish Road Bridge Replacement

The existing North Lake Samish Road Bridge is a five-span, 250’ long timber structure built in 1963. A new load rating determined that the bridge be severely weight restricted. TranTech is preparing design documents for a 3-span, 255’ precast concrete bridge with a curved alignment to replace this structure. This new design satisfies the minimum design speed requirements at the south approach without extensive fill/encroachment into the lake. In addition, this option is cost-effective with minimal permitting challenges. Special care was given to incorporate low impact design attributes including noise reduction, minimization of traffic impacts, long life cycle, and reduction of environmental impacts. Public outreach meetings early in design phase resulted in overwhelming support of project.
