Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail

TranTech provided construction management for this project that includes extension of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trail from I-405 southbound to the I-90 east portal. The trail runs parallel to I-90, crossing Richards Road and terminating at 36th Avenue in Bellevue. Multiple retaining walls including soldier pile, geosynthetic, and structural earth (SE) guide the path of this trail.

The project includes construction at the busy intersection of Factoria and 36th Street. Most of the work was performed during night shifts. Elements include a four-span bridge over Factoria, founded on deep drilled shafts, and manholes in excess of 30 feet are constructed as part of the new drainage system for 36th Street. This project required extensive coordination and outreach among multiple stakeholders including Seattle Public Utilities, WSDOT, PSE, King County Metro, a Honda dealership, and franchise utilities. This project won the Washington State APWA’s Project of the Year award in the transportation $5-25 million category.
