Hughes Ave Reconstruction

This federally-funded project reconstructed Hughes Avenue through Blaine’s growing industrial area. Significant coordination with WSDOT was required to secure a Channelization Plan and modifications to an existing bridge structure to ensure corridor ADA continuity. TranTech provided a complete bid package with all necessary permits to advertise for construction. Planning and care were taken to ensure construction would be constrained within existing right-of- way. A Channelization Plan was prepared and approved by WSDOT for the SR 548 at Hughes Avenue intersection. The City of Blaine is rather unique in that it has its own electrical power supply and distribution system operated and managed by its public works department. TranTech worked with City staff to create a lighting system that conformed with their standards while at the same time ensuring the system conformed with WSDOT standards for areas within their jurisdictional review. The system accommodates the extension of the City’s Peace Portal Community Trail. Planning and care were taken to ensure construction would occur within existing right-of-way. TranTech staff updated the City Right-of-Way Procedures and documented that no right-of-way was affected by the project to comply with federal requirements. This project was nominated for a 2020 APWA Transportation Project Award by the City of Blaine.
