Holly Street Improvements

The Holly Street Improvements Project enhances pedestrian access and allows for future bicycle access through downtown Bellingham as part of the City’s annual street overlay program. This project included the reconstruction of the City’s “bricks‐and bollards” landscape architecture elements. As a principal subconsultant, TranTech provided design and public outreach support to improve the transportation corridor of Holly Street. The improvements have created a place for people to gather and enjoy the adjacent businesses as well as provide a wider space for pedestrians. Enhancements included spot reconstruction/resurfacing of sidewalks for four blocks and redevelopment of pedestrian curb extensions at all four legs of three intersections to comply with current ADA/PROWAG standards. Holly Street received a new asphalt overlay for four blocks and a new striping configuration to accommodate a future bike lane. Spot improvements to the City’s aging downtown water infrastructure were also designed by TranTech, including hydrant and water main replacements.
