120th Avenue NE Improvements

TranTech was selected by the City of Bellevue to develop construction phasing and staging plans, Maintenance of Traffic Plans (MOT), and Traffic Control Plans (TCP) for this $15M roadway improvement project in the heart of the Bellevue’s downtown. The work zones and MOT phasing for the 120th Avenue construction project was defined from NE 7th Street to NE 12th Street, just over a half a mile in length. Plans for road and lane closures were extensively examined by TranTech to mitigate impacts to the operation of I-405 at NE 8th Street on / off ramps and northbound I-405 mainline.

Several key project elements included accommodating property agreements transacted during the project design, energizing three permanent signals prior to construction completion, and adjusting to hazardous waste contamination which impacted available options. Additionally, 120th Ave NE between NE 6th and NE 8th required TranTech to develop three separate channelization shifts. Re-alignment of 120th Ave NE between NE 10th and Bellevue Lake access required TranTech to plan for maintaining full business access. The MOT plans were reviewed and got the approval from WSDOT. The City was very satisfied with the TranTech team’s performance on this project, which had a relatively short design window.
